It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the formation of the
Selkirk Valley Back Country Horseman. This new Chapter which won its Charter from
the State of Idaho BCH in March of 2004 and is comprised of horsemen and horsewomen
totally committed to assisting the Forest Service in the maintenance of trails, but
more importantly to assure that our Public Lands remain open to stock use.
In little more than twenty five years this Country has lost over two thirds of
the trails that were created over a century ago. Now there is a voice and movement
in Congress to shut down our Public lands to stock use. We, along with the State
and National Chapters, will not let that happen.
This chapter was formed out of a need and desire to engage these influences and
become the voice of all horse owners in North Idaho . We are growing rapidly and
already far exceed the membership of most existing Chapters.
OUR MISSION & PURPOSE IS TO:
PERPETUATE the common sense use of horses in the back country.
WORK to insure that public lands remain open to recreational stock use.
ASSIST agencies in their maintenance and management of the resource.
EDUCATE, encourage and solicit active participation in the wise use of the back country resource by stock users and the general public.
